Senior Backend Engineer (Python/Go/AWS)

Continuum Industries is on a mission to help rewire the world with cleaner, green energy. We have developed Optioneer, an AI-powered tool that helps plan new infrastructure projects much faster, more sustainably and at lower risk. Since launch, we have supported over 40,000 km of new linear infrastructure - underground and subsea power cables, overhead transmission lines, hydrogen and water pipelines. Our customers include large enterprises like SSE, National Grid, SGN, BP, RWE and Xodus Group.
We've just closed our Series A and we're entering an exciting new phase of growth and looking to scale up our Engineering function!
We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who will join our team in:
Growing the number of users that we’re having; this has been doubling in recent months and set to increase.
Scaling the amount of data that we’re storing, processing and rendering for our users.
Increasing the use-cases of the product from a point-to-point solution of routeing to being the operating system for linear infrastructure planning for our customers.
Evolving our product by making it more intuitive and bringing together composite parts to form impactful functionalities.
Building this operating system will require lots of brand new developments as well as integration and connection between existing features to provide both a smoother user experience and allow our users to deeper insights to the decisions that Optioneer is helping them make.
This role will involve researching, architecting, building and maintaining the solutions required to make Optioneer the industry standard software for linear infrastructure development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take end to end responsibility for building features and driving value
- Grow our technical capabilities, researching and implementing new architectural patterns
- Establish and implement best practices, supporting them with tooling as needed
- Be a proponent in the scaling of our architecture supporting our growing user base and more data intensive functionalities
- Develop architectural patterns that will help us scale our functionalities with more interconnected features without sacrificing productivity
- Share your knowledge with the team and be a mentor/coach for junior team members
You'll bring:
- Experience and knowledge of Postgres, Cloud Development, common backend languages
- The ability and experience in making critical decisions in situations where there are multiple viable routes forward
- Experience making significant direct contributions to a system or product and describe the benefits that your contribution brought
- Great interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders alike
- Knowledge of Kubernetes and the challenges in scaling a deployment on it.
- Experience coding in Golang, Python or both.
Bonus points for:
- Managing deployments and challenges that come with
- Knowing anything about physical infrastructure.
- Python frameworks such as: Gorm and Django
- Experience with AWS and services within such as: SNS/SQS, Cloudwatch and Cloudformation

Continuum Industries follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged for tasks that require a high degree of collaboration. We have offices in London UK, Edinburgh UK and New York City US (launching in Q4)!
